Li Yun Zhao ("Wendy")

... is an English speaking tour guide in Yangshuo, China. She specializes in "minority tours", which means taking visitors to see villages near Yangshuo instead of focusing on tourist attractions. At the same time, she is familiar with the local attractions and can make arrangements for visiting and enjoying them.

Wendy found us on the street in Yangshuo our first morning there and showed us her book of references. She made a good impression on us immediately with her friendly and helpful manner, and her references in the little book she carries are excellent!

She collects testimonials from people that she has helped over the last fourteen years that she has been a guide, and her clients come from all over the world. When we were traveling with her, I had a chance to go through the book in more detail and saw entries from France, Germany, Holland, England, the United States, Spain, and many more. I was impressed by the nice things that people said about her and contributed my own entry to her collection.

This picture is several years old, but it shows Wendy with her family. Her oldest daughter is now teaching school after completing university, and her other daughter and son are presently in university (this is being written in May 2009). Her eldest daughter, Emily, helps Wendy with email and other correspondence, and they can be reached through this link.

One of Wendy's references came from a tour operator in Seattle, Dave Bruels, who goes by "ChinaDave". You can read his comments on his Interlake China Tours blog.

China travel and vacations go better when your sightseeing is supplemented by explanations of what you are seeing. You owe it to yourself to have an English speaking tour guide accompany you and assist with arrangements and point out the sights that will be of most interest to you.
